The Anker PowerCore 20100 Portable Charger is a great choice for a durable and reliable portable power bank with quick charge, a must-have gadget for anyone who travels with phones, laptops or other electronic devices. And, let’s face it… these days that is almost everyone who travels! We need to stay connected—whether to friends and family or to work or other obligations—while traveling the world and we are increasingly reliant on portable chargers to keep us on the go.

For portable charging needs, while traveling, the Anker PowerCore 20100 Portable Charger is an outstanding and favorably reviewed option. This lightweight, ultra-high capacity portable charger is equipped to charge all of your electronic devices at their fastest possible speed. This product provides long-lasting charge for many different devices and is an incredibly useful tool both for traveling abroad as well as for regular day-to-day use.

Two things to add here: First, there is a newer model of this item, the Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD with 30W Power Delivery Charger, however, since it is more than double the price, we can still recommend the older model, as it does the job well. The 26800mAh of power charges most phones over 7 times, tablets at least 2 times or notebooks at least once.

Second, I use, the Anker PowerCore 13000, Compact 13000mAh 2-Port Ultra-Portable Phone Charger Power Bank, which is very lightweight. Like most of these chargers, it takes way too long to charge ( pretty much all night) so you really have to think in advance if you want your battery pack fully charged. Luckily, I only need to charge it 1-2x per week. The 13000 weighs 8.5 oz (vs the 20100 weights 12.5 oz).

Anker products come equipped with Power IQ Technology. This means the portable charger intelligently identifies the connected device and then PowerIQ delivers the optimum, high-speed charge to all devices. This includes both Apple and Android phones and tablets as well as cameras, consoles, and many other electronic products.

The Anker 20100 is extremely lightweight when you consider its impressive size-to-capacity ratio. A product that weighs approximately the same amount as a can of soup (12.5 oz) can charge the iPhone 6s up to seven times, the Galaxy S6 up to five times or the iPad mini 4 twice.

Additionally, the Anker 20100 boasts surge protection, short circuit protection, and more advanced safety features to protect all of your electronic devices. It comes in a black or white matte finish that doesn’t show smudges or fingerprints and includes Smart technology that determines when charging output is encountering cable resistance. By compensating for this resistance, VoltageBoost ensures the charging speeds are unaffected by the use of long or old cables.

Anker PowerCore 20100 comes with a portable charger, a Micro USB cable, a convenient and protective travel pouch, a welcome guide, and an 18-month warranty for users. It should be noted that the lightning cable for use with an iPhone or iPad must be purchased separately. Additionally, Anker offers outstanding customer service for assistance with all of their products, which are enjoyed by 10 million+ users.

Pros – Anker PowerCore 20100 Portable Charger

Anker products have been reviewed favorably by many users, including frequent travelers and digital nomads, and we’ll highlight some of the “user pros” here.

  • The Anker 20100 comes with a USB cable and you plug it into any USB port to charge.
  • The Anker 20100 works with both Android and iPhone devices.
  • A lighted display area on the device informs the user of the approximate amount of battery left (there are four lights, so the display is in approximate increments of 25%).
  • Users note the Anker 20100 typically charges devices faster than a car charger.
  • The ability to charge two devices at once (and indeed numerous times over) is a huge convenience for Anker 20100 users.
  • The impressive speed is cited by users; for example, one user noted his iPhone 7 could be fully charged in only 30–35 minutes (or 45 minutes if in use).
  • Another user noted the Anker provides plenty of charging power for both the iPad and iPhone 7 Plus, even when used at maximum brightness.
  • The carry case and build quality are consistently cited as outstanding features by users.
  • The product is a favorite for hikers, bikers, and travelers who need long-lasting charging capabilities in a lightweight and durable format.

Cons – Anker PowerCore 20100 Portable Charger

There are a few “cons” that are frequently reported with the Anker 20100, which are as follows:

  • The charge time for the device is a common complaint among users. Some report that the device may take a full day or longer to charge (though most users try to charge their devices during sleeping hours in order to minimize this inconvenience).
  • Some Anker 20100 users report that the weight of the product can be a bit heavy for “pocket carry” or daily use, suggesting it is better suited for long trips only. (Again, this should be taken in context with the Anker 20100’s impressive size-to-capacity ratio. Many users understand that the device is still relatively lightweight when you consider just how powerful and long-lasting its charging capabilities are.)
  • Some users report their Anker 20100 portable chargers stopped working (or worked at slower charging speeds) anywhere from a few months to one year after the initial purchase.
  • While the Anker 20100 works with most USB-charged devices, it does not work for the iPod nano, iPod Classic, HP TouchPad, Dell Venue 11 Pro, Asus tablets and some GPS and Bluetooth devices.

Anker customer service works hard to ensure customer satisfaction and can be counted on to replace defective products and address other consumer concerns. When and where users have reported defective or malfunctioning products, Anker will promptly replace the products. Even users who have experienced a defective or malfunctioning product have often remained loyal to Anker because of their outstanding customer service and willingness to address any problems quickly and ensure the customer is satisfied.

Because there is always a risk for a defective product—from any manufacturer—it is a good idea to purchase and test a portable charger well in advance of a trip, to sort out any issues or problems beforehand. An Anker 20100 portable charger should certainly be considered when planning travel and it may be your best bet for portable charging needs as you hike, bike, explore, and sightsee in destinations far and wide.
